Located in the west-central area of the state, the region is named for its most important landmarks, Dartmouth College in Hanover, and Sunapee, the spectacular lake and the mountain rising from its southern shore.  The mountains and lakes of the region provide plenty of opportunities for hiking, biking, skiing, and boating.  Ten-mile crystal clear Lake Sunapee is a boating and swimming paradise with its beautiful mountain backdrops, three lighthouses, and rocky shore punctuated by sandy beaches including Sunapee State Park.  Just up the road is Mount Sunapee Resort one of the state’s premier ski areas offering both winter and summer recreation.  Mt. Kearsarge is the perfect mountain for hikers of all ages. Accessed from two State parks, Winslow State Park in Wilmot or Rollins State Park in Warner, the open summit provides 360 degree views of the region and into Vermont, and you can even drive part way up the Rollins side to a terrific look-out area.

Shopping is a treat at one-of-a-kind shops in towns like New London and Hanover, authentic country stores, and antique shops such as Prospect Hill Antiques in the village of Georges Mills. The arts are alive and well in this region and have been for over a century.  Visit the “Hop” Hopkins Center for the Performing Arts, the Hood Museum with a permanent collection of more than 65,000 works of art and artifacts, local theater groups, and Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site in Cornish, home of renowned sculptor Augustus Saint - Gaudens who lived and worked at the estate. Nearby the Cornish-Windsor covered bridge connects Cornish with Windsor, Vermont and is the longest 2-span covered bridge in the world and the longest covered bridge in the country.
